Video Description

On the 16th of November 2011 Maples Collegiate celebrated its first Diwali. Diwali, the festival of lights, is the most popular of all the festivals from South Asia. Channel 7 Oaks was there to broadcast the event to the World. Here are some of the performances we recorded that evening. Be sure to check back regularly as Channel 7 Oaks will be adding more recorded footage from the Maples Diwali Celebration.

The Maples Diwali Celebration Series - Part 2:

Maples Remix Girls Punjabi Dance
The girls perform a remix of Bhangra and Giddha. They talk about Paranda (used to tie up long hair) and Jhanjran (a piece of jewellery). They also discuss beauty and compare their beauty with the beauty of a peacock.

Bhangra Boys ( Beginners)
A man named Tara Chanda calls other men to bring tumbi, nagaoze (instruments) and then they start Bhangra. They also praise the natural beauty of the Punjab with its five rivers, agricultural fields, and healthy, strong, and brave men.
