The 2016 Maples Diwali
On the 16th of November 2011 Maples Collegiate celebrated its first Diwali. Diwali, the festival of lights, is the most popular of all the festivals from South Asia. Channel 7 Oaks was there to broadcast the event to the World. We will be releasing the performances we recorded that evening. Our first release is "Maples Diwali Celebration Series - Part 1" can be found in our video section. Be sure to check back regularly as Channel 7 Oaks will be adding more recorded footage from the Maples Diwali Celebration.
During late October 2011, the Channel 7 Oaks Production Crew filmed the Maples Collegiate drama productions of "Frankenstein" and "Night of the Living Dead". Both of the theatrical presentations were a huge success. The students of the Maples Film and Broadcasting Group have prepared theses drama presentations for release on Channel 7 Oaks.
We are broadcasting Diwali Mela on Wednesday November 16, 2011 live form the Maples gym. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:00 p.m. Students are arranging the cultural event (about an hour) which includes dancing, singing, and martial arts. There will be cultural displays and food (food will be for purchase, East Indian food provided by a local restaurant).
Diwali or Deepavali is popularly known as the "festival of lights," the most significant spiritual meaning is "the awareness of the inner light". Central to Hindu philosophy is the assertion that there is something, beyond the physical body and mind, which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atman. The celebration of Deepavali as the "victory of good over evil”
